Arturo Campagnola

TO A GOOD FRIEND (Carlo, Anna, Elisa and Elena Grivetto)

13 December 2007, the day of St. Lucia, the shortest day of the year, was for the Colma even sader, because Arturo left us.
We moved to this hamlet to find a peaceful home and to enjoy the charm of the hills of Monferrato, Arturo was a great friend from the start.
We became friends not only because our houses were close to each other, but also because of Arturo’s availability and open mind; this created immediately confidence, sympathy and friendship.
Then, our children were born and for them he become "Uncle Arthur."
In the evening of S. Rosario, the people gathered on the street in front of the church of St. Bartholomew; it was not large enough to accommodate all. Many commented: "He was a friend of all!" And "His family is a friend of all!"
These are sincere comments.

Arturo Campagnola

Thanks to Arturo, we learned to know the people, the environment, history and traditions of this land: he was born, grew up and lived in Colma, and he was attached to this part of Monferrato, its vineyards, its crops among the quarries and the people of Rosignano, who with dedication and spirit of sacrifice proudly dedicated to preserving land and traditions of this region.
Arturo was definitely a part of Colma: in summer, we rested with him and others under the “mammolo”, to chat or play cards with the usual players.
Sometimes you could see him excited in discussions, he was impulsive and stubborn, but always very frank: the beautiful and heartfelt sincerity, which unfortunately today is not so easy to find; this sometimes led him to walk away in silence to avoid confrontation, in order not to offend other people.
In shorter days, you could meet him walking around with his dogs for a friendly chat … now we miss him … a lot.
Farewell Arturo, our lives have crossed for ten years and we will keep the memory of you until we meet again.
Carlo, Anna, Elisa and Elena
